My earlier blog posting covering this period referred to my first Scout Camp in Arran in the summer of 1961. Since then, I've received some photos from that holiday, taken by one of the Scout Leaders, Tony Lang, so I thought I'd let you see them now.
The first one gives you a view of our initial campsite - you can see our tents in the background of this photo. It was a fine site too - at least until the rains came and the river rose alarmingly:
Here's a group of Scouts - I'm not sure if I'm in it or not - could that be me 2nd on the right?:
There were cliffs right above us and this is a view from them:
The Scout Leaders' accommodation was a bit better than our patrol tents:
Here's one of me and my pal Johnny Duncan relaxing in a camouflaged tent:
and here's my Patrol, the Peewits, lining up for inspection:
Not much doubt where I am in this one - I was the youngest in our Patrol, who are lined up in order of seniority from the left. Wish I could remember some of their names. I remember that sweater I'm wearing - Mum knitted it and I wore it for years, until I shot up when I was about 14-15.
I mentioned we were flooded out and had to move out of our tents and in to a local pig sty - and here it is:
What a blast from the past that was. I'm only 12 years old at this time.
